Warriors Gaming Squad and Grizz Gaming split a pair of close games Tuesday during Group 3 play in THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T.
Grizz Gaming entered the second quarter of Game 1 with a two-point lead, but Warriors Gaming Squad outscored Memphis 22-9 in the next frame to enter the half with a 40-29 lead. After a tight third quarter, Grizz Gaming made a comeback bid during the fourth quarter, but it fell short as Warriors Gaming Squad picked up a 73-67 win.
Warriors Gaming Squad had strong performances from most of their team in the first game. CB13 led the team in scoring with 27 points, along with six assists and two rebounds. Slaughter had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Gradient (15 points) and Jin (12 points, three rebounds) also had big games. Vandi was the standout performer for Grizz Gaming as he finished with 38 points and six assists, and G O O F Y 7 5 7 had a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Warriors Gaming Squad got off to a much stronger start in Game 2, finishing the first quarter with a 21-15 win. Grizz Gaming managed to shave one point off the deficit in the second quarter, but they turned things on in the third quarter as they entered the fourth quarter leading 47-45. The teams were locked into a close battle over the final frame, but Grizz Gaming emerged with a 70-68 win after Vandi drained a layup with 2.2 seconds remaining.
On the Grizz Gaming side, Vandi matched his scoring total from the first contest as he finished Game 2 with 38 points and eight assists. G O O F Y 7 5 7 had slightly less offensive output with eight points and 11 rebounds, but he also managed to record five blocks and three steals. Jrod made a significant contribution toward the winning effort as well with 13 points and two assists. CB13 led Warriors Gaming Squad once again with 25 points and eight assists, while Slaughter had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Gradient notched 13 points, but the team fell just short of ending pool play with a winning record.
Warriors Gaming Squad finishes pool play of THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T with a 2-2 record, while Grizz Gaming will face 1-1 Pacers Gaming later Tuesday.
