Jazz Gaming and Celtics Crossover Gaming met Tuesday for the opening two games of Group 2 of pool play for THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T. Jazz Gaming came out strong in Game 1, building a 43-35 lead at halftime. Celtics CG had no answer in the second half, as Jazz Gaming won the half 47-40 to claim a 92-81 victory. Jazz Gaming won every quarter in the comfortable win. Splashy led Jazz Gaming with a 29-point, 11-assist double-double, while splashing five triples. Lord Beezus scored 17 with five threes of his own, and Ria dominated the paint with 18 points, 18 boards and seven rejections. The story of the game was oFAB, who led all scorers by a comfortable margin, with a monstrous 58-point performance that included 10 steals, six assists and four rebounds. Despite the incredible stat line, Celtics CG couldn’t come away victorious.
In Game 2, the teams split the first quarter at 16 apiece, but Jazz Gaming opened things up in the second quarter. The team went on a 21-8 run to push the lead to 13, though Celtics Gaming closed the quarter on with four straight points to cut it to single digits. Jazz Gaming’s first-half success was due in large part to Splashy’s game-high 20 points, while Celtics Gaming’s oFAB produced 13.
Jazz Gaming broke the game open in the third quarter, outpacing Celtics CG 22-10 to take a commanding 59-38 lead into the fourth quarter. Splashy scored eight in the quarter to bring his total to 28, while Ria sat with a 14-point, 16-rebound double-double through three quarters. Jazz Gaming led by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter and won Game 2 75-56. Splashy led all scorers with 37, while Ria went for 16 points and 18 rebounds for a second straight double-double. oFAB led Boston with 27 points, a modest total compared to his Game 1 output. The two teams were evenly matched in terms of shooting, but Jazz Gaming won the turnover battle 14-4 in this one.
One of the best teams in the league this season, Jazz Gaming won both of its games comfortably in this opening series. Both teams will face Mavs Gaming in separate two-game series later Tuesday to conclude Pool Play for Group 2.
