The final Group A contest on Tuesday saw Cavs Legion GC defeat Pistons GT, 86-59, on the backs of their two-way star small forward Hood who scored more than half of his team’s points.
Despite showing strong defense in their first two contests, Pistons GT could not contain the 16th pick in the NBA 2K League Draft nor his teammates who had plenty of court space to work with throughout the game.
Pistons GT kept pace with the Cavs Legion in the game’s opening minutes and only trailed by six at the end of the first quarter. What seemed to be another close match began to see some separation in the second quarter, as Hood and Sick x 973 relentlessly attacked the basket, helping Cavs Legion drop 26 points in six minutes. By halftime, Cleveland led 45-21 with 77 percent shooting, with Hood and second-round draft pick Sick x 973 combining for 30 points on 11-of-13 shooting.
Cavs Legion GC continued their shootaround in the second half, tacking on another 41 points. Hood finished the game with 46 points on 19-of-21 shooting from the field, five more than his stand-out performance against Kings Guard Gaming earlier in the day.
Fortunately for Pistons GT, this loss did not take them out of the tournament, as their earlier victories helped them secure the runner-up spot in Group A. They will face the winner of Group B on Saturday while Cavs Legion GC, who won Group A via tiebreaker, will take on Group B’s runner-up to open the quarterfinal matches.
