Raptors Pick Up Convincing Win

June 27, 2019

Raptors Uprising GC (6-7) took home a convincing 53-40 win over Jazz Gaming (6-7) to close out Thursday’s action during Week 10 of the NBA 2K League.

Raptors Uprising has been up-and-down throughout the season, but have been looking good thanks to Sick x 973’s dominance on the sharpshooting rebounder build at center. In this game, Sick took center stage, scoring 21 points on nine-of-13 shooting, including three-of-six three-point shots, while providing six rebounds and five steals. The rest of the Raptors weren’t slouches by any means, as Doza finished with 14 points while Kenny Got Work finished with 11 points and eight assists. This game wasn’t a fast-paced shoot-out, though, it was a battle of defenses. The Raptors played great team defense, finishing with 11 steals compared to the Jazz’s eight. TsJosh didn’t have a big defensive stats night, but his consistency at shutting down the Jazz’s focal point on offense all but gave the Raptors a big win.

The Jazz needed a win here to keep its playoff dreams alive, as teams that inch over to seven or eight losses tend to soon slip out of the playoff hunt. In a battle of defenses, the Jazz came up with the short stick in more ways than one. Their attack suffered heavily, with the team only making 16 of their 39 field goal attempts throughout the game, including a pitiful three-for-13 from beyond the arc. The woeful shooting led to big rebounding numbers, giving Ria a mind-blowing 15-points and 19-rebounds for the double-double, but lack of ball movement definitely hurt the Jazz. It didn’t matter that the Jazz were slightly worse at disrupting set plays than the Raptors on defense because the offense didn’t give the Jazz a chance to really compete this game, which might have cost them their entire season.
