CLTX Gaming Picks Up 2-0 Sweep

July 24, 2019

Celtics Crossover Gaming (10-6) finished off the upset 2-0 sweep of Mavs Gaming (12-4) with a 68-53 win on Wednesday during the first round of the NBA 2K League Playoffs.

Celtics Crossover Gaming came into this series with a mission beyond winning the first playoff series in franchise history: prove that oFAB is the best point guard in the league. Matched up against former number one pick Dimez, oFAB shined, earning player of the match honors with a 24-point, 14-assist double-double. MEL EAST continued to show why he should be in the conversation for defensive player of the year, limiting Dimez to just 11 points on nine shot attempts. The real star of this game, though, was NO xAUTOGRAPHSx, who straight-up dominated PeteBeBallin. The Celtics didn’t shoot many threes, only attempting 12, because the pick-and-roll between AUTOGRAPHS and oFAB worked to perfection. On the other end of the floor, AUTOGRAPHS kicked in an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double, cleaning the glass while picking up six steals. The Celtics will play the winner of Pacers Gaming vs 76ers Gaming Club next, but no matter who they play, look for this team to make an impact and potentially punch a ticket to the finals.

Mavs Gaming had all kinds of hype surrounding it throughout the year. A big undefeated streak, Dimez playing like a former number one pick, and the team surrounding him with legitimate talent in guys like Sherm and PeteBeBallin made it seem like this was the roster that could give Dimez a chance to shine in the postseason. Unfortunately, the Mavs weren’t that team today. After dropping Game 1 of the series 63-55, the Mavs came into Game 2 with nerves and it showed. From PeteBeBallin’s six fouls, picking up a foul-limit technical with under two minutes to go in the fourth, to the team’s 15 turnovers compared to the Celtics’ seven, the Mavs seemed unprepared to go the distance. Sure, Sherm and Mo shot well in the first half to keep the game close, but once the defense adjusted, Sherm got locked out while Mo had to watch as Dimez struggled to get the offense going. The Mavs will now have to do some serious thinking in the off-season. Will they be able to find a better supporting cast to put around Dimez? Or, perhaps they need a new star to build around? The future is uncertain for the Mavs, maybe nothing changes, but coming into the playoffs as the number two seed and getting swept round one should be a major wakeup call.
