Mavs Clinch No. 2 seed

July 19, 2019

Mavs Gaming clinched the No. 2 seed in the 2019 postseason Friday with their 78-66 victory over NetsGC in Week 12 of the 2K League.

Mavs Gaming (12-4) still had plenty to play for in Friday’s regular season finale, as they were just a half-game ahead of third-place 76ers GC in the 2K League standings and behind them by a significant amount in the scoring margin column.

However, it didn’t look like they were ready to play until the final quarter, as they allowed NetsGC (7-9) to hang around for the first 18 minutes of the game. In fact, after the first quarter, Nets GC was in complete control with a 21-13 lead. From that point on, the teams traded baskets for most of the second and third quarters, and ultimately, NetsGC held a 54-51 lead entering the final quarter.

That is where it went downhill for NetsGC, however, as Mavs Gaming erupted over the last six minutes. After hanging around for the first couple minutes, Mavs Gaming rattled off a 20-4 run to end the game, and in a flash, NetsGC’s season had ended on a loss and Mavs Gaming clinched the No. 2 overall seed for the postseason.

It ended up being a terrific all-around team performance for Mavs Gaming, with all five players scoring in double figures. Point guard Dimez led the way with a game-high 20 points and 12 assists, while center PeteBeBallin added a double-double of his own, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The difference for Mavs Gaming ended up being their three-point shooting, which came in high volume, as the team knocked down 13 of their 26 attempts from behind the arc.

Meanwhile, while it was a valiant effort from NetsGC, they appeared to have just run out of team in the closing moments of the game. Shooting guard Lav and power forward Shockey led the way scoring with 18 points apiece, while point guard Wavy.Zay was the third and final player to reach double figures with 15 points. With the loss Friday, NetsGC ended the season on a four-game losing streak.
