SLAM OPEN Week 2 Power Rankings - NBA 2K League

SLAM OPEN Week 2 Power Rankings

The first week of the 2023 season is in the books and what an incredible start it was. Surprises all over the place and a bunch of incredible debuts from one of the best rookie classes in league history. You have legacy teams struggling alongside newfound powers finding their footing in the league. Week 2 gave us just about everything. With that being said, let’s jump into our first round of Power Rankings! The first record is the team’s SERIES record, the second is their GAME record.

  1. Bucks Gaming (8-0) (24-11) 80 points

  1. DUX Infinitos (7-1) (21-7) 70 points

  1. Knicks Gaming (6-2) (20-10) 60 points

I talked about Bucks Gaming and DUX Infinitos in my end of week wrapup, so I’ll hop to our #3 team and talk about how fun Knicks Gaming has been this year. OriginalMalik has looked as good as expected so far, leading the line all while using a non-meta shooting guard build in the process. He’s been excellent on it and has to be on anyone’s way-too-early MVP sheet. The backend combo of Stick and Radiant has been the real surprise, being maybe the best offensive frontcourt in 3v3 so far. Radiant playing this well on PF just goes to show how good some of our elite players truly are, making a position change look so easy like this is anything but. They have some holes to fill, but an exciting team heading into bracket round.

  1. Warriors Gaming (6-2) (19-13) 60 points

  1. NBL Oz Gaming (5-3) (20-14) 50 points*

  1. Jazz Gaming (5-3) (18-14) 50 points *

  2. Cavs Legion GC (5-3) (18-11) 50 points

This team is very close to being an elite team. They aren’t quite there yet, but it’s right beneath the surface. At their best, they can beat any team in the league. When the insane two-way potential of this team rears its head, Antoine-SubGoated-Seese look like the scariest trio in the league. It’s just not consistent enough yet. It’s easy to look at what they did on Friday when they swept both T-Wolves Gaming and Pistons GT and think, wow, are they a top 5 team in the league? But, then you look at Wednesday where they went 0-2 and think, eh, maybe not. For now, 7 feels right. I still feel very confident in my preseason playoff pick for them, for what it’s worth.

  1. Wizards DG (5-3) (18-13) 50 points

  1. Nets GC (5-3) (18-16) 50 points

  1. 76ers GC (5-3) (18-15) 50 points

  2. Gen.G Tigers (4-4) (17-19) 40 points

Their record is a bit deceptive. They played week 1 without Feast in the lineup and while they didn’t necessarily play poorly, they went 3-1 in week 2 series and 12-8 in games played with two game 5 victories. The whole team just looked better. The Crush-Feast combination looks as good as advertised and OTTR is still one of the most lethal players in the league when he’s on. I’m not sure what to really expect from this team in double elimination rounds. I think they could pop off and go on a run or go out in two series. How they play with real money on the line will tell us everything we need to know about this team this year.

  1. T-Wolves Gaming (4-4) (19-14) 40 points

  1. Hawks Talon GC (4-4) (17-15) 40 points

  1. Pistons GT (4-4) (13-16) 40 points *

  2. Lakers Gaming (4-4) (17-20) 40 points

An inconspicuous debut for Lakers Gaming. Ryan1of1 had some very impressive flashes, but he also looked like a guy who has played one competitive week on the league build. I like what I’ve seen from Krazy and GreenTooNice, but they’re almost TOO aggressive for their own good. It’s costed them a lot defensively and while it’s helped their offense while Ryan gets into form, it needs to even out for them to be a true threat. Still like the team, but it may be difficult to judge them until we are in the middle of next tournament.

    16. Grizz Gaming (4-4) (17-14) 40 points *

    17. Raptors Uprising GC (3-5) (16-17) 30 points

  1. Celtics Crossover Gaming (3-5) (18-18) 30 points

  1. Heat Check Gaming (3-5) (11-18) 30 points

This team had an infuriating two weeks. So much potential, so many wasted opportunities. Ky is extremely good, his ability to score off the dribble is kind of unrivaled around the league right now. When he actually decides to pass, his playmaking skills are pretty good too. But man, too many times I saw him mess around at the end of games or series and watch them end up losing. Let it stop now before it really becomes a thing. He has already learned the hard way what happens when you let teams hang around in this league. I hope it’s a lesson learned and we don’t see it affect them in money rounds.

20. Pacers Gaming (3-5) (13-17) 30 points

  1. Hornets Venom GT (2-6) (12-22) 20 points

  1. Blazer5 Gaming (2-6) (10-19) 20 points

  1. Mavs Gaming (2-6) (10-20) 20 points

    24. Magic Gaming (1-7) (11-23) 10 points*

  1. Kings Guard Gaming (0-8) (5-24) 0 points *

I’ll always speak on the #1 and #25 team every week and I really hope I don’t have to talk about the Kings GG team after this week. 0-8 and 5-24 is unacceptable. I know there have been some issues beyond their control, but that does not explain a 5-24 record over 29 games played, not with a roster this talented. And still, no Dimez. I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, and frankly I do not want to guess. We thought this team could have some personality issues, but we are two weeks into the season and the writing is already on the wall for this team. I’d expect some massive roster changes to come, something has to give.
