One Point Victories From Pistons GT & Wizards District Gaming Highlights Week 2, Day 1

Pistons GT Move to 2-0 After Narrow Win vs. Bucks Gaming

The NBA 2K League’s second regular season week began with Pistons GT eeking out a 57-56 win against Bucks Gaming. Although BigMeek played one of his strongest games so far this season, he will will be remembered for missing what would have been the game-winning basket for Bucks Gaming in the contest’s final seconds.

Pistons GT shot better in a low scoring back-and-forth first half — 65 percent from the field against Bucks Gaming’s 50 percent shooting percentage — as Im So Far Ahead established himself with 11 points and five assists in 12 minutes. He went on to nearly earn a double-double by the end of the game, tallying up 24 points and eight assists.

oLARRY was instrumental in keeping the Bucks in a four-point game at halftime, scoring 11 points off 5-of-8 shooting from inside the paint and a single free throw.

Late in the third quarter, Bucks Gaming turned around a near double-digit deficit into a 41-38 game, making several stops and capitalizing on open looks from downtown. They then had some foul trouble to begin the fourth quarter, but eventually tied the score at 50-50 with 90 seconds left to play.

Those 90 seconds set the stage for an intense sequence that began with dueling three-pointers from Rux and King Peroxide. LARRY then threw up an impressive block at the three-point line and earned a trip to the foul line, but missed one of his two free throws.

That opened the door for Pistons GT to trade buckets towards a 57-56 lead. Bucks Gaming’s chance at their first 2K League Regular Season win came down to one inbounds play. Relying on BigMeek to hit one more shot for the win, their hopes were crushed when his step-back long two clanged off the rim, giving Pistons GT their second win of the season.

Outside of that missed opportunity, BigMeek was a reliable inside scorer all game and a solid defender at the three. Unfortunately, what happened in those final seconds tarnishes an otherwise career standout game for the sixth rounder, but he should recover by the time Bucks Gaming faces Blazer5 Gaming next week.

As for Pistons GT, they will take their 2-0 record into a highly anticipated matchup with Celtics Crossover Gaming, a team that will challenge Lets Get It Ramo and Im So Far Ahead with their own one-two bunch of oFAB and Arsonal X.

Heat Check Gaming Earn First Win of Regular Season

Heat Check Gaming secured their first win of the NBA 2K League regular season, handling Warriors by a score of 69-58.

It was a low post battle through and through, as both Golden State and Miami opted for rim protector archetypes for their centers, utilizing their respective low post weapons to the fullest extent throughout the first half. The decision to switch 24K Dropoff to center for Friday’s game was a brilliant stroke of genius for Miami as the third-round pick manhandled his opposition down low to the tune of 10 first quarter points. He would finish with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting, but it was the nominal center, Hotshot, who stepped over to the power forward role, that helped Heat Check Gaming claim complete control of the paint while tallying 25 points – most of which came in the second half.

The low post scoring might not have been as big of an issue for Warriors GS if not for the team’s 19 turnovers, 13 of which came in the first half, as Golden State was unable to trade high efficiency baskets thanks to their inability to hold onto the ball. LYKaPRO, Vert and type all scored in double figures.

Miami will hope to repeat next Friday at 8 p.m. ET against Dimez and the rest of Mavs Gaming. Warriors Gaming Squad will get the opportunity to correct their mistakes, as well as reintroduce pivotal small forward Shawn_Win to the lineup, when they take on Magic at 6 p.m. ET next Saturday.

Wizards District Gaming Records First Regular Season Win

It was deja vu for Wizards District Gaming (1-1) in their Week 2 matchup against Pacers Gaming (0-2), but unlike the opening week of the NBA 2K regular season, Washington was able to prevail thanks to a timely defensive block in the waning seconds of the contest, picking up their first win in a close 63-62 affair.

As Pacers Gaming maintained a small advantage throughout the majority of the second half, neither team was able to build any sort of substantial lead thanks to timely buckets and even better ball control.

It was the Boo Painter show to begin the game, as the Washington power forward immediately asserted his dominance in the paint, tallying 12 points in the first quarter alone to give his team the small edge entering the second quarter. That opened up the floor for small forward Jin to amass a litany of mid range jays, finishing the game with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

But for every bucket by Boo Painter and Jin, Pacers Gaming would counter with a three-headed attack of their own, featuring WoLF 74, Swizurk and TuckerLocksUp. It was especially encouraging to see WoLF 74 back as a facilitating small forward, a role he performed to perfection throughout THE TIPOFF, given the team seemed to opt away from the archetype during its Week 1 contest. The small forward finished with 17 points and 11 assists, posting his first double-double of the regular season.

If WoLF passed up any open two pointers – a rarity given his nifty ability to create easy baskets for himself – he would continually feed the post to TuckerLocksUp, who finished with a career-high 23 points. The normally defensive-minded big man had his way with the Washington front court in the second half, piling in 15 points during the final 12 minutes to keep Pacers Gaming close the entire way. However, it was two missed points that will have Indiana looking for answers, as an inopportune dunk opportunity by TuckerLocksUp with only a second remaining was swatted away by a plethora of Wizards’ defenders, giving Pacers Gaming their second loss of the young season.
