Blazer5 Outlast Cavs Legion in Thriller

May 5, 2018

– Rotowire –

In a thriller fit for the semifinals, Blazer5 Gaming remained undefeated after a 69-64 win over Cavs Legion GC to move into THE TIPOFF grand finals.

This one was very much a tale of two halves as, throughout much of the first half, Blazer5’s strategy seemed to center around letting Cavs star Hood get his usual buckets while shutting down the rest of the team. The Cavs managed to move the ball well enough to foil this defensive strategy, though, opening the second quarter with an 11-4 run that put them up 27-18 midway through the quarter.

The second half was a completely different story, however. Blazer5 Gaming weathered the early storm from Cavs and came back with haymaker after haymaker to take full control of the proceedings in the third quarter. Led by the boisterous center OneWildWalnut, who finished with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds, Blazer5 outscored Cavs Legion 21-8 in the third quarter to take a solid 52-44 into the final quarter.

Despite having their backs against the wall, however, Cavs Legion didn’t go down without a fight. Even when Blazer5 remained up by nine points with just under three minutes to go, Cavs Legion ignited the fire with a quick flurry of six points to bring themselves within three points in the final minutes of the game. But then GRANT MONSTER came out of nowhere with a dagger from beyond the arc for his first points of the game to put Blazer5 back up by six. That proved to the final push needed for Blazer5 to put themselves at a clean 5-0 record heading into the grand finals later in the day.
