In a heated battle filled with plenty of jawing from both sides, Heat Check Gaming took a 1-0 lead in their semifinal series against 76ers GC with a 68-63 win.
The 76ers are surely thanking their lucky stars that the semifinals are a best-of-three given their loss in this opening game. Despite being one of the best offensive teams in the league, Philadelphia couldn’t find their rhythm in this game and were handed a tough loss as a result.
Throughout the majority of this contest to open Saturday’s slate, the teams went back and forth as neither managed to get full control over the game. Even with Hotshot putting on another blistering performance, the 76ers were sticking right there and keeping things incredibly close the entire way. This was despite Radiant putting on an uncharacteristic performance at quite possibly the worst time ever.
Even as the 76ers took a 33-32 lead into the second half, though, it wasn’t long until the Heat started to pull away from the pack. All it took was a 9-2 run late in the game to give Miami the lead for good. They locked down on defense in the final few minutes and now own a comfortable 1-0 lead in the series. While Hotshot led the way with 52 points, SharpShooterlos added in 10 points of his own to round things out and showing that this team has what it takes to surprise people.
The 76ers will certainly have to regroup before Game 2 as this game was a far cry from the type of performances they’ve become accustomed to this season. Most shocking of all was Radiant only managing four points in the entire game. He did tally 18 assists, but it was the deficiencies in his own offense that hurt this team the most. Still, iFEAST and Steez combining for 43 points was a great sign, and if they can get Radiant involved more during Game 2, this series could very well go the distance.
