While Raptors Uprising GC put up quite the fight, they were no match for Cavs Legion GC in a 77-65 game on Friday evening during the NBA 2K League Playoffs.
The Raptors and Cavs might have been evenly matched coming into this series as the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively, the Cavs were a few steps ahead of the Raptors down the stretch in this game. After jockeying for position during the first quarter, the Cavs started to pick up steam in the second half and there was nothing that Toronto could do about it.
As is always the case with the Cavs, the fate of this team rested with the illustrious Hood who put on another solid performance with a 20-point, 20-rebound double-double. It was behind his performance that the Cavs managed to make it look easy after the first quarter, as he was doing it all to keep this team chugging along. He even shut the door on an attempted comeback from the Raptors late in the fourth quarter with an emphatic and-one to punch their ticket into the semifinals. Not only did he put on a show on offense, but he made sure that his team stayed locked in on defense to protect their lead the entire way. In fact, the Cavs never trailed after taking a 13-12 lead in the first quarter of the game. It was a complete performance that saw everyone on the team except ToXsiK score in double digits.
For as strong as the Raptors had looked on their five-game win streak heading into the day, they couldn’t muster enough to get past this strong Cleveland squad. The problem was one that we’ve seen pop up time and again all season, as Kenny (30 points and 10 assists) and KingQuai614 (22 points and 11 rebounds) didn’t have enough help from their teammates who finished with just 13 points combined. As such, it was a disappointing end to what had been a promising run for this scrappy Toronto team.
With this win in hand, the Cavs will now head to the semifinals where they will come face-to-face with either Knicks Gaming or Blazer5 Gaming on Saturday in a best-of-three series.
