Kings Guard Gaming Pull Off Stunning Upset vs. Blazer5 Gaming

July 13, 2018

–RotoWire–

David just beat Goliath. While THE TICKET has seen each of its top four seeds lose in their opening round match, none could possibly be more surprising than Friday’s marquee upset, as Kings Guard Gaming – the No. 17 seed – knocked off No. 1 seed Blazer 5 Gaming by a score of 69-63.

It’s difficult to figure out which part of the stunning upset was, well, the most stunning. There’s the fact that Kings Guard Gaming never trailed in the contest. Then there was the performance of No. 4 overall pick moootyy, who managed to outrebound arguably the best offensive rebounder in the league, OneWildWalnut. The Kings Guard center managed to claim a monsterous eight offensive boards, dwarfing that of his competition, netting his team a plethora of second chance points.

However, all of those points pale in comparison to the sudden rise of worthingcolt, the center who has taken over at point guard during Kings Guard’s two TICKET wins. It’s not an exaggeration to say that without worthingcolt at PG, Kings Guard Gaming would never have won their play-in game, much less this contest against Blazer5 Gaming. It didn’t take long to figure out what Kings Guard’s gameplan would be in this contest, as the first quarter saw worthingcolt finish with 13 of the team’s 22 points. The diversification on offense didn’t get much better from there, as Kings Guard essentially relied exclusively on a pick and roll game with mootyy from the second quarter onward. Despite knowing exactly what would happen each time down the quarter, Blazer5 Gaming was powerless to stop it as worthingcolt executed a near flawless gameplan which saw a litany of layups mixed in with expert ball movement. Any time Mama Im Dat Man tried to sag off the pick and roll, worthingcolt would drill a three pointer. And when Dat Man would try and get in the face of the newfound PG, worthingcolt would simply blow by him or dish it down low to mootyy. Blazer5 Gaming tried everything to combat the offense, at one point trying to cover colt with power forward Dat Boy Shotz, but with every possession Kings Guard Gaming managed to match each of their opposition’s buckets with one of their own.

Make no mistake, this wasn’t a case of Blazer5 Gaming beating themselves, as OneWildWalnut – despite the rebounding deficiencies – managed to post a solid game in his own right. Even supporting characters Lavish_phenom, GRANT MONSTER and Dat Boy Shotz knocked down the majority of their shots when they needed to. No, this upset was firmly thanks to an excellent gameplan and even better execution from worthingcolt.

Time will only tell if the Cinderella run can continue, as Kings Guard Gaming takes on another potent NBA 2K League team in Celtics Crossover Gaming on Saturday.
