Boo Painter and Jin put on a show for Wizards District Gaming, racking up 68 points combined to help their squad advance to THE TURN’s quarterfinal round with a 80-67 victory. It was a career day for Boo Painter, who put up a season-high 41 points on 16-of-20 shooting.
From the opening tip, the teams made it clear that this game was going to be won and lost inside the paint, as the Wizards and Heat both went 1-of-6 combined from three in the first half. Boo Painter and Jin both heated up quickly, taking advantage of Miami’s weak interior defense by slashing their way to the basket. Washington extended their lead to 35-22 by the end of the half, ending the second quarter on a 15-6 run with trash talk galore on the floor.
The frontcourt duo also stonewalled Hotshot in the paint, making him miss half of his 10 field goal attempts while forcing him into four fouls by halftime. Shutting down Hotshot seemed to completely extinguish Heat Check Gaming, as they could not find another scorer to help dig them out of an insurmountable double-digit deficit.
With the MVP race already heating up around the league, this game was another bullet point in Boo Painter’s resume. Along with a career high in points, Boo also brought down 12 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 assists, displaying his talents on both sides of the ball as an inside scoring machine and lockdown defender.
Wizards District Gaming’s opponent in the quarterfinals will be the 76ers Gaming Club, who they blew a double-digit lead to in a one-point loss back in Week 3.
