Cavs Legion (4-3) was able to tilt its record in a positive favor Saturday by defeating Mavs Gaming (4-2) 67-66.
After a tightly-contested first quarter that ended 20-19 in Cavs Legion’s favor, the script flipped during the second period. Heading into halftime, Mavs Gaming was able to secure a seven-point lead, up 40-33. The team was able to hit two more shots than Cavs Legion, one of which was a three, and commit three fewer turnovers.
However, Cavs Legion went on a quality run in the third quarter to tighten things up, down by just two points heading into the fourth period. The game remained close until the final buzzer, but Cavs Legion was able to secure the victory behind a game-saving block by Sick x 973 after a clear path foul that awarded Mavs Gaming two free-throws and the ball.
Mavs Gaming got two 20-plus point efforts, respectively, out of Dimez — the No. 1 overall pick in the inaugural 2K League Draft — and HazzaUK2K. Dimez, who came into the contest third in the league in assists per game (12.3), also finished with 12 assists and five steals, but committed eight turnovers. Dayfri, who ranked third in both rebounds per game (9.4) and steals per game (2.5) coming into the tilt, underperformed. He totaled four points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists.
Cavs Legion also got two 20-plus point efforts. Godddof2k finished with 21 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Savage tallied 20 points, 16 dimes and five steals, though had seven turnovers.
Mavs Gaming’s next contest arrives June 23 against Pistons GT (4-1). Cavs Legion next plays Heat Check Gaming (2-3) that same day.
