Wizards District Gaming kept their playoff hopes alive for at least one more day, surviving an excellent first half from Knicks Gaming to claim an 80-68 victory to kickstart Friday’s Week 12 action.
This game will be defined by its two halves, as it appeared the lowest-seeded playoff team – Knicks Gaming – was hoping to put some respect on its name, rolling through Washington in the first eight minutes. By the mid-way point of the second quarter, Wizards District Gaming trailed 33-23 with both G O O F Y 7 5 7 and iamadamthefirst near the double-digit point mark. A timeout seemed to change the entire tune of the game, however, as Washington would go on a 33-11 run through the rest of the second and third quarters which essentially wound up being the difference in the game.
MVP candidate and unofficial leading scorer in the NBA 2K League, Boo Painter, continued his scoring ways once more, tallying 46 points on 22-of-30 from the field, eight rebounds and 11 assists as his presence was practically the sole win condition for Washington. Consistently able to find a bucket near or around the paint, Wizards District Gaming just needed to shore up its half-court defense, which it did in the second half, to lock up a critical victory. With multiple teams hunting for the final three spots, Washington must hope for a little bit of help from other teams come Saturday in order to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
