In Wednesday’s penultimate contest, Jazz Gaming punched their ticket to THE TIPOFF Playoffs by cleaning up Knicks Gaming 64-59. New York marched back out to the court to face Utah minutes after their overtime loss to Wizards District Gaming, and it seemed that they could not shake off the close defeat in time to earn their way into the tournament’s playoff stage.
Jazz Gaming established their transition offense early, hitting eight of their of nine shots en route to leading Knicks Gaming 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. Smoove, Jazz Gaming’s fifth-round draft pick, led his team with 10 points and four rebounds in those six minutes.
On defense, Utah shook Knicks Gaming’s long distance confidence in the first half, making them miss all six of their three-point attempts through the first 12 minutes. The Knicks Gaming’s first triple came in the middle of the third quarter, when NateKahl hit one towards the top of the arc to put his team ahead 39-38.
By the end of each quarter, Jazz Gaming regained or kept their lead over Knicks Gaming, fending off the hometown heroes with a late fourth quarter 7-2 run and sending them out of the inaugural 2K League Tournament.
