It took one of the highest scoring performances in the entire NBA 2K League, but it was Jazz Gaming that would walk away with a pivotal victory over Celtics Crossover Gaming, as Utah secured a 90-83 victory Friday.
Both teams entered Friday’s contest with aspirations of reaching the top of the standings. An inspired run at THE TURN where Boston took second place seemingly erased a mediocre 3-3 record during the NBA 2K League regular season. Celtics Crossover Gaming entered the pivotal matchup as the supposedly hotter team. Sitting at 4-2, Jazz Gaming hoped to add another notch on its impressive belt of victories, with another win putting the team in prime position to register a top-5 seed in the league.
The action was fierce throughout the first half, as both teams traded leads often throughout the opening 12 minutes. The low post game was especially prevalent, as the Celtics’ power forward and center duo of SpeedBrook and Arsonal X combined for 27 of the team’s 43 first half points while the Jazz registered just 18 points between their two big man. Not surprisingly, the dominance in the paint saw Boston register an 11-4 first half rebounding lead. However, a 6-2 turnover margin in favor of Jazz Gaming helped keep Utah close in the first half, as they trailed 43-42 entering the second half.
The low post dominance completely flipped in the third quarter, however, as Jazz Gaming center MrSlaughter01 changed the trajectory of the entire contest. Tallying eight points on 4-of-4 shooting, MrSlaughter01 took control of the paint, converting a couple of offensive rebounds for buckets, or using the second chance opportunities to kick out to his teammates for open three pointers. Power forward Deedz also did his job, adding another five points in the pivotal frame as Jazz Gaming claimed a seven-point lead by the end of the third quarter, an advantage they would not relinquish.
The win gives Jazz Gaming (5-2) a decided advantage over Celtics Crossover Gaming (3-4), who figure to be set for a climb up the standings in the coming weeks.
