NBA 2K League fans experienced some serious deja vu Saturday night, as Bucks Gaming won an overtime game 72-66 against Cavs Legion GC to earn their first NBA 2K League win in the regular season. The only win the Bucks (1-3) took in the TIPOFF Tournament came against the Cavs (3-2) in overtime, with KinG PeroXide hitting the shot that sent that game into overtime.
The fifth-round pick Queens native reprised his role as the Bucks’ hero in this rematch, scoring 16 of his team’s 21 points in the first quarter. He essentially played a point-forward role to facilitate the Bucks’ offense, allowing his squad to earn a 40-34 lead at the half.
Cavs Legion GC answered back in the third quarter after Bucks Gaming extended their lead to eight, making a 10-0 run and focusing on high-percentage shots in the paint to rally back into the game. Bucks Gaming re-established their lead in the fourth quarter, but with 90 seconds left in regulation, Cavs Legion GC erased a six point deficit to force overtime.
Despite heading into the three-minute period with little momentum, Milwaukee finally closed the door on Cleveland, icing the game with an and-one layup from KinG PeroXide. He released his inner beast with 30 points and nine assists, rivaled only by Savage’s 22 point and eight assist effort for Cleveland.
With the win, Bucks Gaming avoided a nasty play-in game next week for the first Mid Season Tournament, where the winner would face the number one team in the tournament.
