Despite a 40 point combined effort from their frontcourt duo Detoxys and Yusuf_Scarbz, Raptors Uprising Gaming lost 69-66 to Blazer5 Gaming, giving Portland the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Mid Season Tournament.
The first half was an omen for what would become a defensive, slow-paced affair, with the first quarter ending in a 12-12 deadlock. The Blazers (4-0) escaped the half up 30-28 thanks to Dat Boy Shotz’ 10 points, and only made four attempts from three out of the 25 total shots from the field. The Raptors (1-5) kept close by making three-of-seven three-point attempts, as well as feeding Detoxys in the paint.
Raptors Uprising GC roared into the second half with a 10-3 run, pushing their offense efforts under and around the basket. Blazer5 Gaming responded with an 11-2 run to begin the fourth quarter, with the two teams meeting at 57-57 with a little over a minute left to play.
After an all-out war for a loose ball, Detoxys hit a long two to get his team up 59-57. Mama Im Dat Man then found GRANT MONSTER in the corner, who hit what appeared to be the game-winning buzzer-beater. As Portland players and fans erupted in celebration, the game transitioned into overtime because GRANT MONSTER’s foot was on the line.
Both teams quickly reacted to a jump ball to begin the extra period, where Blazer5 ultimately pulled out the win with OneWildWalnut hitting the dagger off a Dat Man steal. They both earned double-doubles in this contest; Mama Im Dat Man had 16 points and 14 assists while OneWildWalnut earned it through 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Due to this loss, Raptors Uprising GC will need to earn their way into the Mid Season Tournament through a play-in game. They will start next weekend’s event with a game against Pacers Gaming, and, should they win that contest, they will have an opportunity to exact revenge on the first seeded Blazer5 Gaming squad.
