Knicks Gaming Pull Off Second-Straight Stunner

June 14, 2019

Knicks Gaming pulled off the second upset in as many games Friday, defeating Mavs Gaming 65-63 on Day 2 of THE TICKET, powered by AT&T.

It was another upset and another thriller in Friday’s second game, as Knicks Gaming remains alive and is looking to repeat what they did last year when they won the tournament and punched their ticket to the playoffs. Friday night, they pulled off this shocker on the back of small forward OriginalMalik, who put together his second straight stellar performance on offense.

But it was far from easy for Knicks Gaming despite the fact that they held a lead for the majority of the contest. In fact, Mavs Gaming, the No. 2 seed in this tournament, didn’t take their first lead of the game until there were four minutes left in the third quarter. Then, after opening up the final quarter on an 8-0 run to go up six points, their largest lead of the game, it looked like Mavs Gaming was ready to run away with it.

But Knicks Gaming was not going to go away quietly, rattling off a run of their own that was capped off by a three-pointer from OriginalMalik to go up by three with under a minute remaining. From that point, Knicks Gaming wouldn’t lose the lead and were able to starve off Mavs Gaming in the closing moments.

With Knicks Gaming being without star player G O O F Y 7 5 7 for the second straight game, they looked to OriginalMalik to show out. He did, scoring a game-high 26 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three and 11-of-21 shooting from the floor overall while hitting big shot after big shot. Point guard iamadamthe1st added 17 points and eight assists, while HazzaUK went a perfect 4-of-4 from three on his way to scoring 14 points.

For Mavs Gaming, it was an impressive all-around team effort, with four players reaching double figures Friday. The difference ended up being the discrepancy from behind the arc, with Knicks Gaming making 11 outside shots to Mavs Gaming’s six. Center PeteBeBallin led the way shooting 8-of-10 from the field en route to posting 18 points and nine boards, while shooting guard Sherm added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Point guard Dimez added 12 points and 11 assists.
