T-Wolves Gaming Wins NBA 2K League Finals

August 4, 2019

T-Wolves Gaming etched its name in esports history on Saturday, taking a 52-35 win over 76ers Gaming Club and winning the NBA 2K League Season 2 championship in a hard-fought 3-2 series win.

T-Wolves Gaming started the season with a record of 3-6 and looked dead in the water. Then, after trading for JMoneyRep817 at midseason, this team started to pick up steam. Fast forward ahead to Game 5 of the Finals, and this team showed veteran poise (despite being an expansion team) as it relied on rock-solid defense to take home the championship. Forcing Radiant back into his shell with paltry points and a plethora of turnovers, the Wolves held the Sixers to just 12 points at the end of the first half. This defensive domination culminated in the Wolves picking up a whopping 16 steals, led by FEAST with nine. Finals MVP BearDaBeast, though, did most of his damage on the offensive end. In this series-decider, BearDaBeast scored 23 points on eight-of-13 shooting, putting up eight assists as well as he got his teammates involved. All year long, BearDaBeast said that his T-Wolves were going to be that team to beat, and on Saturday, in front of a raucous and supportive crowd, he lived up to that promise.

For the 76ers Gaming Club, this loss is a tough pill to swallow. In Game 4, when Radiant came alive to force Game 5, it looked like the 76ers were finally waking up and becoming that Finals team that everyone expected from them. Instead, though, Radiant receded yet again, finishing with eight points on three-of-nine shooting, two-of-five from beyond the arc, seven assists, and a series-high 12 turnovers. ZDS did what he could with 10 points on limited shooting, but the lack of movement and flow to the Sixers offense really hurt the team down the stretch, shooting the ball 10 less times from the field than the Wolves. What’s more, the defensive end broke down after a while, with BearDaBeast resorting back to his old tricks and using the right side of the court to work his magic. At least the 76ers got closer to a championship than last year’s campaign, but this loss is still tough for a club expected to hoist the trophy.
