MAGIC GAMING SWEEPS T-WOLVES GAMING IN UPSET

August 6, 2020

RotoWire — Jeff Edgerton

Thursday’s game against Magic Gaming was make-or-break time for T-Wolves Gaming, as they needed a win to punch their ticket into the playoffs. A loss would end their playoff hopes. In a stunning upset, the Magic shocked the T-Wolves with a 2-0 series sweep.

The T-Wolves appeared to have the game well in hand with a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Magic roared back with an 18-8 second quarter led by Reizey and Profusion, and at the break, they held a slim 31-30 lead. The Magic had upset on their minds as they entered the second half, as they worked to extend their lead and put the defensive pressure on the T-Wolves’ offense. The Magic were especially effective in the paint, where they successfully fended off anyone who tried to slash toward the net. The T-Wolves managed to keep things close despite some pretty sloppy gameplay in the third quarter. They trailed 46-40, going into the final frame. The T-Wolves managed to cut the lead to five points, but that was as close as they got. A timely steal and a flurry of threes put the game away, as the Magic surprised the T-wolves to take game 1. Reizey posted 24 points and nine assists in the win, while Profusion went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scored 15 points.

Both teams were evenly matched in Game 2, and battled to a 15-12 score in favor of the Magic at the end of the first quarter. The Magic and the T-Wolves continued to exchange baskets with neither team gaining a significant advantage, and the first half ended in a dead heat, with the Magic holding a slim 24-23 lead. As the third quarter began, the T-Wolves began to figure out the Magic’s defensive scheme and found spots where they had an edge. Unfortunately, they had 12 turnovers by this point, and the Magic were able to hold to the lead they built off those errors. They swiftly built up an eight-point lead early in the fourth quarter, and before long the lead ballooned to double digits. With relative ease, the Magic won Game 2 70-51 to take the series.

Since the Nets beat the T-Wolves in the regular season, the NetsGC is in at 8-8, and the T-Wolves are out, and destined for THE TICKET, powered by AT&T. The Magic seal their regular season with a win and now await seeding for THE TICKET, powered by AT&T.
