Wizards Claim Series Win

June 30, 2020

RotoWire – Juan Pablo Aravena

Wizards District Gaming started Game 1 with a dominant stance and had no problems taking control of the contest, jumping to a sizable 19-7 lead following the first six minutes of the game. They wouldn’t let that advantage slip away, though, and recorded 20-11 scores in both the second and third quarters, entering the final quarter up by 30 points (59-29).
Not even a massive fourth-quarter performance would have allowed Cavs Legion to mount a comeback. Even though they won the final quarter by a 21-15 score, it was clear the Wizards routed their rivals in Game 1. Most of that can be attributed to the performance of their center, Dayfri, who finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in a dominant performance.

JBM (21 points) and Newdini (11 points, 12 rebounds) posted solid performances for the Wizards as well. Meanwhile, Strainer paced Cavs Legion with 26 points. His teammates didn’t step up in Game 1, but that would change drastically in Game 2.

Cavs Legion played with a completely different attitude in Game 2, and they showed it right from the tip-off — they jumped to a 22-11 lead after a combination of accurate shooting and strong defense. They increased their advantage in the second quarter as well (21-12) and entered the half-time break up by 20 points, 43-23. The Wizards would respond and eventually won the remaining two quarters, 17-14 and 16-15, respectively, but that wouldn’t be enough. The Cavs had a healthy-enough lead to cruise towards an easy Game 2 win, 72-56.
Strainer paced the Cavs Legion in this one with an excellent performance, recording 37 points and dishing out 11 assists. Doza added 17 points, while oLarry contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals. JBM (25 points) and Dayfri (10 points, eight rebounds, six assists) once again stood out as the best players for the Wizards.

Apparently, the Wizards wanted to recover what they lost in Game 2 and came out firing, jumping to an eight-point lead in the first quarter and never letting it go. The Wizards were up 20-12 and extended their lead following a 18-12 second quarter, getting closer to a much-needed win.

Not even a restart could stop the Wizards, as the game had to be stopped at halftime and re-continued due to technical issues. Wizards District kept dominating the game and would close things out after the break, winning both quarters 17-14 and 23-16, respectively. They ended winning 78-54 against a struggling, helpless Cavs Legion squad that couldn’t repeat what they did in Game 2. The Wizards moved to 8-1 in the season.
Dayfri paced the Wizards in Game 3 as he sniffed a triple-double — he finished with 17 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. JBM added 26 points and six dimes to the winning cause, while Just_Awkward added 19 points. Strainer and Doza each had 17 points for Cavs Legion in Game 3, but that wasn’t enough to pull the upset.
