Raptors Uprising GC Roars Past Magic Gaming

June 23, 2020

Rotowire

In their first regular season contest since winning THE TIPOFF, presented by AT&T, Raptors Uprising GC continued their undefeated run to start the year by sweeping Magic Gaming. The victory by Raptors Uprising GC brought their record to 10-0, tying the record for most wins to begin a season set by Mavs Gaming last year.

Raptors Uprising GC had some sloppy ball handling to begin Game 1 that allowed Magic Gaming to take a 4-2 lead in the opening minutes, but that was the only lead the Magic held throughout the contest. The Raptors responded with a 15-0 run that provided a solid foundation for the rest of the game. While Magic Gaming managed to slightly escape their slump later in the first quarter, Raptors Uprising GC kept running up the scoreboard as they have in many of their games this year.

Both teams struggled with ball control throughout the first game as the Magic committed 16 turnovers while the Raptors gave up 13, but Raptors Uprising GC managed to make the most of their opportunities, converting on 80 percent of their 50 field goal attempts, including going 19-for-21 as a team from beyond the arc. Kenny Got Work led Raptors Uprising GC with a 39-point, 14-rebound double-double while putting together a perfect game from three-point range. Timelycook was averaging 4.0 steals per game heading into the contest and added to that total with six steals along with 23 points, while ReeceMode added 26 points and eight assists. Reizey nearly had a double-double of his own for Magic Gaming with 24 points and nine assists, but his eight turnovers allowed the Raptors to pull away.

Magic Gaming had a much more effective showing in the first quarter of the second contest, going 8-for-12 on their field goal attempts while holding a 20-19 lead. However, the Raptors remained explosive from three-point range, hitting on six of their eight attempts, which allowed them to escape the first frame with a lead despite the solid play by the Magic.

Magic Gaming kept the game much closer over much of the contest the second time around behind Reizey’s 40 points and four assists, but the flood of three-pointers, led by strong MVP candidate Kenny Got Work, allowed the Raptors to maintain a narrow lead throughout most of the rest of the game. Magic Gaming committed six turnovers during the fourth quarter, and several clutch three-pointers by Raptors Uprising GC down the stretch resulted in a comfortable 90-73 victory thanks in part to double-doubles from Kenny Got Work (38 points, 12 assists, five steals) and Sick One (10 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists).

Raptors Uprising GC (10-0) will look to set the record for the most wins to begin the regular season Monday against Heat Check Gaming, while Magic Gaming (2-7) will attempt to bounce back Thursday against Warriors Gaming Squad.
