Pacers Gaming (8-4) took a nail-biting 57-55 win over a scrappy Wizards District Gaming (5-7) on Thursday during Week 9 of the NBA 2K League.
Pacers Gaming came into this game with a clear gameplan: get Ramo going early. The Wizards didn’t let that happen easily, but allowed Swizurk and Man In A Car to go off instead. Taking a 35-25 lead into halftime, and with WoLF 74 leading the Pacers’ lockdown defense, it looked like this game would be a walk in the park. Then, in the second half, the Pacers took their foot off the gas. Suddenly, Ramo was forcing shots with two people on him, part of why he only scored 15 points on seven of 17 shooting. The Wizards fought back and took a small lead in the fourth quarter, but the Pacers bounced back. Man In A Car had 16 points on four of six shooting from beyond the arc, Lord Beezus had a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double, and Ramo redeemed himself by making the game-winning shot with 1.4 seconds left on the clock. The Pacers need to refocus to keep their lethal edge, but will rest easy with this win.
The Wizards, on the other hand, were devastatingly close to picking up a win against a team that made the finals of THE TICKET, powered by AT&T. After getting set back by 10 points in the first half, ReeseDaGod caught on and started taking over, finishing with a game-high 24 points on 10 of 15 shooting. Dayfri started the momentum change with a couple of clutch threes, leading to the Wizards winning the third quarter 18-11. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Wizards started to unravel. That saw the team calling random timeouts to the point where they ran out of them by the end of the game, jacking up unnecessary three point attempts when they only needed two points, and other signs of sloppiness. The Wizards have the talent, but the consistency is lacking and can be a prime reason why this team is struggling to even reach .500.
