Jazz Gaming (7-8) showed heart on Wednesday with a 69-63 overtime win over Lakers Gaming (3-13) during Week 12 of the NBA 2K League.
Lakers Gaming had nothing to play for today, seeing as they’ve been long eliminated from playoff contention. Still, they showed fire against Jazz Gaming, led by a monstrous performance from Kev. Kev was undoubtedly in his element, scoring a whopping 41 points on 15-of-23 shooting, including a crucial seven-of-10 from beyond the arc. Mootyy and Vert put in work of their own outside of scoring, with Mootyy picking up 16 rebounds while Vert dished out 12 assists. When the game went to overtime, the Lakers were behind in almost every major stat except three-point shooting, but solid team play from the Jazz and some classic Laker sloppiness down the stretch cost them.
It seems like not far long ago that Jazz Gaming was a dark horse for the playoffs, but now they’ve been reduced to scrapping it out with one of the bottom teams in the league. Ria somehow mirrored Kev’s production, putting in 41 points on 15-of-26 shooting, and the rest of the team played decently well, so how come they couldn’t put the Lakers away early? Simple: perimeter shooting. Jazz Gaming has struggled from beyond the arc for a while, but this game exposed this fact. The Jazz picked up more assists, and committed less turnovers, and even made more shots than the Lakers, meaning this game was incredibly hard to lose yet it somehow still went to overtime. Credit a resilient LA squad for that surprising endeavor, as well as a Jazz Gaming squad that hasn’t consistently strung together positives performances this season.
