Celtics Crossover Gaming extended their winning streak to eight games and greatly increased their chances at the playoffs Thursday with a 65-60 victory over Lakers Gaming in the 2K League.
Red-hot Celtics Crossover Gaming (9-5), who came into Thursday’s outing as winners of seven straight games, wasted no time jumping all over Lakers Gaming (3-12), who entered the week in second-to-last place. After a decently competitive first couple of minutes, Celtics Crossover Gaming erupted for a 14-0 run and ultimately ended the first quarter up 26-8.
From there, Celtics Crossover Gaming went into cruise control, as while their lead didn’t grow by any significant amount over the course of the next couple quarters, it certainly didn’t shrink, as Celtics Crossover Gaming did just enough on both ends to keep their distance.
Lakers Gaming did attempt to make one last push in the closing moments of the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t get the deficit any closer than five points, and that margin came on the final shot of the game. The game was certainly not as close as the final score would indicate.
To no one’s surprise, point guard oFAB led the way offensively for Celtics Crossover Gaming, as he continues to be one of the league’s most consistently dominant players down the stretch. He finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting in addition to seven assists and three steals. Shooting guard MEL EAST lit it up from the perimeter on his way to scoring 18 points, while center NO xAUTOGRAPHSx shot 7-of-8 from the field on his way to posting a double-double of 14 points and 18 rebounds.
For Lakers Gaming, their winning streak ended at just one game, as they were simply overcome by the talent on the other side of the floor. Power forward Kev did put the finishing touches on an impressive Week 11, however, scoring a team-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Unfortunately for him, help was hard to come by, as small forward Safiya4Ya was his only teammate to reach double figures with 12 points. Point guard Vert did have nine points and 11 assists, but he also accounted for 11 of his team’s 16 turnovers Thursday night.
