Cavs Legion GC (5-5) survived against Lakers Gaming (1-7) to pick up a 53-48 win Friday during Week 6 of the NBA 2K League.
Cavs Legion needed to pick up wins during Week 6 to stay alive in the playoff race and it accomplished just that. Ever since inserting Savage into the starting lineup at point guard, the Cavs have looked more comfortable, letting Strainer play small forward. Savage didn’t have a particularly great game, putting up a respectable 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting along with four assists and two steals, but he wasn’t getting abused by the Lakers defense, either. The rest of the Cavs managed to get involved on offense as well; Strainer scoring a team-high 13 points while earning player of the game honors and oLARRY scored 10 points and picked up eight rebounds including a game-sealing offensive rebound with under 24 seconds left in the game with AllHailTrey chipping 13 points as well. With an already solid defense and an ever-improving offense, the Cavs might have just turned around its season in time for THE TICKET. Then again, a team looking to move up in the standings should, in theory, not have struggled against the hapless Lakers.
The Lakers gave shooting guard Safiya4Ya his first start of the regular season, and he managed to make an impact in his first game, but it wasn’t enough to get the job done. The Lakers have an impressive ability to fall short after small runs of inspiring play. In this game, the Lakers outscored the Cavs 18-8 in the third quarter, but it didn’t matter after LA only put up five points in the second quarter. Point guard KontruL continued his struggles, only scoring two points while coughing the ball up six times. The Lakers’ 12 turnovers hurt them in the end, negating their 23-17 advantage in rebounds thanks to sloppy offense. At least Vert had a solid game, leading all scorers with 15 in a low-scoring affair, but this team simply doesn’t seem to have what it takes to compete. With the Lakers’ playoff chances all but gone, questions loom on the horizon about what direction to take the team and how to recover from a disastrous inaugural season.
