Lowest Scoring Game in 2019 Goes to Heat Check Gaming

April 23, 2019

It was anything but thrilling, but Heat Check Gaming (3-1) came away with 44-39 win over Lakers Gaming (1-4) to conclude Wednesday’s action during Week 3 of the NBA 2K League.

The season is still young, but Heat Check Gaming has now participated in each of the two lowest scoring games during the 2019 campaign, losing to Celtics Crossover Gaming in the TIPOFF semifinals by a score of 46-42 before winning Wednesday’s aforementioned affair.

It’s probably fair to say that a mixture of good defense from both teams and admittedly sloppy play ultimately created the regrettably historic final line, with both teams combining for 29 turnovers, including a head-scratching over-and-back violation which torpedoed Los Angeles’ admittedly slim hopes at creating a comeback win.

A brutal fourth quarter saw both teams combined for just 13 points, with the two teams making just four-of-17 attempts from the field resulting in a somehow anticlimactic yet exciting conclusion.

Laker Gaming small forward Kev may as well have built a house with the amount of bricks he chucked up, finishing with a ghastly three points on 1-of-13 from the field, 11 of which came from deep. That problem was never more evident than in the waning seconds of the contest as the small forward found himself wide open near the top of the key only to rim out a three-point attempt which would have tied the game, effectively ending the low-scoring battle. Entirely reliant on Kev’s ability (or lack thereof) to chuck the three, Lakers Gaming’s offense repeatedly stalled out essentially relying on Detoxys or Mootyy to curtail an offensive rebound and putback opportunity.

The only thing saving Los Angeles throughout the game was Miami’s repeated inability to make easy baskets, connecting on a troubling 18-of-39 attempts from the field as a team. Heat Check Gaming’s center Hotshot utterly dominated the glass, finishing the contest with almost as many rebounds (18) as the entirety of Lakers Gaming (19), but without his heroics its quite possible the formidable frontcourt of Lakers Gaming could have lucked into enough offensive boards to erase the slim margin in the second half.

Both JMoneyRep817 and Lotty finished in double figures for Heat Check Gaming, with the latter guard making all three of his three-point attempts, although curiously not attempting a single three throughout the duration of the fourth quarter. The backcourt duo of Lakers Gaming also finished in double figures, although that’s small consolation considering the now ominous 1-4 start to their inaugural campaign.
